Installation Technician — Custom Awnings & Outdoor Structures

Awnings West is looking for a dependable, mechanically capable person to join our installation team.

We're a family-run company that has been designing, manufacturing, and installing custom awnings and exterior covering systems in the Vancouver area since 1994.

Our work is specialized, varied, and hands-on. One day might involve installing a motorized retractable awning on a residential patio. Another could involve fabricating and installing a large commercial canopy, troubleshooting a mechanical system, or restoring an existing awning.

We're looking for someone who enjoys figuring things out, takes pride in doing good work, and wants to become an important part of a small, experienced team.

You don't need to know anything about awnings to start. If you have good mechanical instincts, some relevant hands-on experience, and the right approach to work, we can teach you the trade.

What you'll be doing

​

Our installation technicians work on residential and commercial projects throughout Metro Vancouver.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Installing fixed and retractable awnings, canopies, patio covers, and other custom exterior structures.

• Measuring, laying out, assembling, and securely installing products using hand and power tools.

• Working with a variety of building materials, fastening systems, and mounting conditions.

• Assisting with repairs, fabric replacements, adjustments, and troubleshooting.

• Preparing equipment, materials, and vehicles for upcoming installations.

• Working alongside our fabrication team when projects require shop preparation or assembly.

• Inspecting finished work, maintaining a clean jobsite, and treating customers' properties with care.

• Learning increasingly complex installation techniques and taking greater ownership of projects as your abilities develop.

You'll receive hands-on training in our specialized products and installation methods.

Experience that transfers well

​

Previous awning experience is not required.

We'd be particularly interested in applicants with experience in:

• Window, door, or glazing installation

• Signage or architectural feature installation

• Garage doors, shutters, or motorized systems

• Carpentry, millwork, or cabinetry installation

• Aluminum railings, cladding, or exterior finishing

• Metal fabrication or mechanical assembly

• General construction involving precise measurement, tools, and finishing details

You don't need to have mastered one of these trades. We're happy to consider someone earlier in their career who demonstrates strong potential.

Basic requirements

​

• Practical experience and confidence using common hand and power tools.

• Ability to measure accurately, follow instructions, and learn technical installation methods.

• Valid BC driver's licence.

• Physical ability to safely perform the essential duties of the position, with accommodation where required.

• Willingness to work outdoors year-round and at heights using appropriate training and safety equipment.

• Ability to understand and communicate job instructions, safety concerns, and project details.

• Authorization to work in Canada.

Fall-protection training, aerial work platform certification, fabrication experience, or previous leadership experience are assets, but not mandatory.
